Robert Friederich
Robert “Bob” Friederich, 82, of Postville, Iowa died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Robert Leo was born on January 13, 1935 to Jacob and Ida (Schneider) Friederich in Elgin, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed on March 22, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. Bob graduated from Postville High School in 1953 and proudly joined the United States Air Force.
Bob was united in marriage with Jean L. Schultz on August 9, 1953. He farmed until 1979 near Frankville, Iowa. Bob worked in the Street Department and Waterworks for the City of Postville for eighteen years, after retiring in 1997, Bob started working at the Casino Queen (formerly Lady Luck) in Marquette, Iowa as a server. After Jean’s death on February 2, 2000, Bob met Shirley Manning while attending a grief support group. Together Bob and Shirley built a life together as they healed from the loss of their loved ones.
Bob was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs Fan. Bob enjoyed working outside gardening, mowing lawns, traveling and going to sporting events.
Bob is survived by his five sons, Allen (LuAnn) Friederich of Luana, Iowa, Chuck (Diana Kokko) Friederich of Waco, Texas, Kevin (Jackie) Friederich of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Brian (Lova) Friederich, of Des Moines, Iowa and Randy (Joyce) Friederich of Waukee, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Mae Friederich of Portage, Wisconsin; grandchildren; great grandchildren; his siblings, Jim (Delores) Friederich of West Union, Iowa, Ray (Murtis) Friederich of Postville, Iowa and Fern Kleppe of Postville, Iowa; sister-in-law, Betty Loftsgard of Oskaloosa, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; special friend, Shirley Manning; his parents, Jacob and Ida (Schneider) Friederich; and his eight siblings, Richard Friederich, Dorothy Foels, Erma Kamaus, Alma Berg, Lester Friederich, Jacob Friederich, Jr., George Friederich and Alton Friederich in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant.
Burial will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Apostolic Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.
