
Norma Amble
Norma J. Amble age 85 of New Hampton died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by Norma's children. Darlene Throndson will be the lector with Norma's granddaughters presenting the offertory gifts. Music will be provided by the Lau Family.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery-Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler with Lucas Trewin, Ryan Amble, Dan Amble, Jay Ramsey, Gary Hodina and Garrett Johnson as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Sarah Huscko, Abigail Lofte, Lydia Lofte, Eleanor Lofte, Emily Sorenson, Brittany Trewin and Kevin Phlaughaupt.
Friends may greet the family 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 2:00 p.m. Rosary and a 5:30 p.m. parish scripture service. Norma Jean Amble was born January 12, 1930, at her grandmother’s home in Ft. Atkinson, IA, the daughter of Thomas and Lillian (Jirak) Hurd. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Norma received her education in country schools and graduated from Pitzie’s School of Beauty in Waterloo. On October 14, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church – Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler, she was united in marriage to Alger N. “Shorty” Amble. To this union seven children were born. The couple lived and farmed north of Jerico on the Amble Family Farm. Norma was an avid gardener; both vegetable and flowers. She was also passionate about sewing and quilting. She loved hearing about her grandchildren’s activities and also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Alger died on January 9, 2005. She will be remembered by her family for the love she showed them. Her family was everything to her.
Survivors include six children, Vicki (Robert) Ramsey of Center Point, IA, Jack (Deb) Amble of Clear Lake, IA, Mary Eileen (Adrian) Lofte of Ossian, IA, Pat Sorenson of Decorah, IA, Amanda (Paul) Trewin of New Hampton, IA, Jennifer (Mark) Jacobson of Rochester, MN; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, William “Bill” (Joanne) Hurd of New Hampton; sister-in-law, Marie (Neil) Jones of New Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Alvin Amble in 1974; one brother, James Hurd; one sister, Leona Johnson; grandchildren, Stephanie Thur and Nicholas Sorenson.
